Aclasta Infusions

An Aclasta infusion delivers 5 mg of zoledronic acid intravenously over 15 to 30 minutes. It is prescribed once a year to treat osteoporosis, strengthen bones, reduce fracture risks, and manage Paget's disease.

How to Prepare

• Drink plenty of water or fluids before and after the appointment to prevent dehydration.
• Complete pre-infusion blood tests as ordered by your doctor to check kidney function and calcium levels.
• Take calcium and vitamin D supplements as advised by your healthcare provider.
• Take paracetamol before or after the procedure if recommended by your clinician to manage potential post-infusion reactions.

What to Expect and Side Effects

• Procedure: Administered slowly via an IV drip in a clinic or medical office over at least 15 minutes.
• Common Reactions: Mild flu-like symptoms (fever, chills, muscle or joint pain, fatigue) frequently occur within the first 3 days and typically resolve on their own.
• Rare Risks: Report any severe, unusual jaw or thigh/groin/hip pain, or signs of low blood calcium or kidney changes to your doctor immediately.
